The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has a waterproof rating of IPX5/7, which is matched by three other models, but there are no tablets with a higher rating than the Tablet Z. Water-resistant

How can we be certain? In order to get the high IP55 & IP57 rating, we submerge Xperia Z under water for 30 minutes – and make sure it’s good as new when it comes out. It’s also resistant to water jets!

Tough as metal

How solid does a precision engineered smartphone need to be? How about as solid as a car? Xperia Z’s frame is made from glass fibre polyamide, the same material that’s used as a metal substitute in automobile parts.

Durable glass

The durable tempered glass
on front and back is a lot
stronger than conventional glass.
And with anti-shatter film
on the front and back, Xperia Z
is anything but fragile.

We tested the Xperia Z smartphone to make sure it could stand up to dust.

Dust-resistant

Since we can’t take every Android smartphone
outdoors, we bring the dust tests to our labs.
Before we label Xperia Z dust-resistant, we
hang it in a dust-test chamber and make sure
its operation is unaffected.

The only waterproof Full HD smartphone**

Waterproof**, dust resistant and with tough tempered glass coated with an anti-shatter film, this Android smartphone is much tougher than it looks.

**As of 7th of August 2013, outside of Japan, the Xperia Z Ultra is the only waterproof (IPX5/8) smartphone with a Full HD display on global distribution. In compliance with IP55 and IP58, Xperia is protected against the ingress of dust and is waterproof. Provided that all ports and covers are firmly closed, the phone is (i) protected against low pressure jets of water from all practicable directions in compliance with IP 55; and/or (ii) can be kept under 1.50 metre of freshwater for up to 30 minutes in compliance with IP58. The phone is not designed to float or work submerged underwater outside the IP55 or IP58 classification range that may lead to your warranty will being void.
